With over a decade of dedicated surgical clinical experience, Stephen has made his way to specialist status via a combined doctoral degree and residency. This advanced training was preceded by a period in general and emergency practice in Ireland and the UK, as well as rotating and discipline specific internships. He became a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2021, following successful completion of board examination, and has worked in dedicated specialist practice since, in both academic and private practice roles.
His clinical experience has been challenging, enriching, and fulfilling, both in Ireland and overseas. Most recently Stephen worked in clinical practice in Hong Kong, at the CityU VMC teaching hospital, before moving to establish and lead the surgery department at Hong Kong’s only dedicated veterinary oncology centre, where he maintains a consultancy role. He has published scientific papers, as well as authored and co-authored textbook chapters. He maintains a diverse surgical caseload, and is renowned for his collaborative approach to patient care, his collegiality, and his accessibility. In addition to qualifications as specialist surgeon, Stephen has also undertaken certification as a hospice and palliative care clinician, allowing compassionate and humane care for pets in need of this service.
Embracing the challenges and rewards of varied specialist practice environments has culminated in the establishment of CoraVets, aspiring to build a hospital that supports specialists and fellow professionals to practice to the highest standards whilst remaining accessible for pet owners.
The ambition to offer referring veterinarians, pet-owners, and their pets clinical excellence, delivered in a supportive environment where they are involved in their pets’ treatment planning and decision-making remains the central ethos of CoraVets.
